Spain (ES) bidding zone

The larger half of the Iberian market, with a very large solar and wind fleet. Iberia is weakly interconnected to the rest of Europe — the France-Spain border is small relative to Iberian demand — so Spanish prices routinely detach from Continental ones.

The EIC is the in_Domain / out_Domain value for ENTSO-E Transparency Platform queries against this zone. Verify it against the ENTSO-E EIC registry before relying on it: several countries publish aliased bidding-zone, control-area and market-balance-area domains, and the correct one depends on what is being asked for.

What an analyst watches here

Weak interconnection is the reason the coupling-divergence screen reads differently here: a Spain-France spread is the normal state of affairs, not an arbitrage nobody took.

Neighbours are day-ahead coupling topology only — no capacity and no direction. They are what the reconstruction uses to derive a coupling reference price for modelled net imports, and they are not a substitute for allocated cross-zonal capacity, which is not yet ingested.
